This Blog is for the members of the U3A Computer Users' Club Costa del Sol to share ideas and information with each other. The aim is to help each other so that we can get more from those very expensive boxes of electronics that we have in our homes.

Tech Talk Problems / solutions and General

Its Wednesday 6th Dec and as there is no club and all the shops are shut I am doing some research.

The problem with the USB ports and powered hardware connected to those ports. I am trying a wireless mouse, which I use on the laptop, on the desktop. However, when I switch off I get to the screen which says "Windows is shutting down", but it doesn't - it hangs. The only way to switch off is to disconnect the electricity and to then disconnect the USB connected hardware and then power up and then close down again.

I am searching two technical forums at the moment and will let you know the outcome.

Some of you will know that my laptop presented the "BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH" to me last Sunday morning. There was nearly a laptop shaped hole in the back window as this had happened just three months ago. I am trying to get the company to stump up a replacement - some hopes - but a new HDD is definitely going to happen.

Next Wednesday is the last meeting and I apologies, I will be in an aeroplane at that time. In January we plan to start again on Jan 10Th. Enrolment for the NEW courses is at the Ark on Monday Jan 8Th. Although one of them is digital photography, one of our members has volunteered to run a couple of sessions on this subject at the club. A "don't miss it" event. We'll try to have a working laptop / projector for those meetings.

Thanks again George for setting up this Blog.

So for now, I wish you a Very Happy and peaceful Christmas and a really good 2007. God Bless,
John
